Ease of Living 2022

The Ease of Living Index (EoLI) aims to evaluate the quality of life and the impact of various initiatives for urban development. It provides a comprehensive understanding of participating cities across India based on the quality of life, economic ability of a city, and its sustainability and resilience.

EoLI Pillars

Quality of Life

Is reflective of an individual’s ability to survive and prosper in a particular city. By examining provisions for necessities such as affordable housing, access to clean water, access to basic education, affordable healthcare facilities, safety and security, and adequate recreational avenues, the goal is to assess whether the city can cater to basic citizen’s needs.

Economic Ability

Captures the economic well-being of citizens by evaluating the level of economic development and inequalities that they encounter in a particular city. It focuses on the economic building blocks of the individuals and city as a whole and takes into account the need for growth and change in the economic well-being in terms of increase in wages, the creation of greater employment opportunities, the need for clusters, etc.

Sustainability

Aims at realizing the need for greener cities and an emphasis on reduction of energy consumption. It evaluates sustainability along the lines of availability of green spaces, promotion of green buildings, level of energy consumption, the quality of natural resources such as air and water, and the city’s ability to withstand natural disasters.
